Comicbooks
by Draginbeard

Howdy folks,

So last year Atomic Comics went out of business, and there was much sadness felt in the valley of the sun over their passing. It was my favorite shop, and it was nearly an institution since I've been here.

With brick and mortar stores struggling against internet shopping, I was worried that I wouldn't find a real comic shop within easy reach. One shop that opened up right next door to the old Atomic Comics store near me did so as a test to see if it was viable location for them.

For the first year Samurai Comics had a what I would call a 'satellite shop', but it was a pretty poorly stocked and I think I went in there, maybe 4 times throughout the entire year they were doing their testing.

Instead I was lucky enough to find Greg's Comics (on Alma School and Guadalupe, in Mesa, AZ) which is pretty close to where I live. Now in contrast, Greg's is a real comic shop, they do very little else and its pretty heavily stocked. I have been doing my comic buying there and plan to stay.

However, the shoddy satellite Samurai Comics shop across from where I live finally decided to make it a permanent store and have it fully stocked. This is a really nice store and they do almost daily game events (mostly card games). I like what they have done with the place.

I now have two comic shops to keep up with my third favorite hobby in the world.

The only problem I'm having now, is the same I have with not being able to join some of my friends who are playing all the new MMO's that have been coming out. I just don't have time to read my comics, let alone play any cool new games! I would never have thought that would happen to me!

With the world in a mess, the economy, and politics being what they are, I feel very lucky that these are my biggest problems.

Anyway, tonight's comic is in partial color. I wanted to go with a 'Wizard of Oz' theme, Jolly is in black and white, and he is falling into a full color universe. The strip following (pg 14) will shoot back into black and white, but after that, from strip 15 on, the pages will be in color. 15 is only half color and was my very first attempt at coloring anything with Photoshop. It came out sort of crayon-ish. It's not my favorite piece of work, but I can live with it.

The coloring has been both difficult, tedious, fun, and sometimes frustrating, but the end result has made me glad I'm taking the time to do it.

I hope you like it as much as I do. I have such huge plans for this strip! If you decide to stick around, you are in for a crazy ride!

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.

I will see you next update!
