Howdy folks,

Character development is tricky, but it can be a ton of fun. I have it in mind to use some of my personal experiences in their relationships to each other. Love is a big one to use. Hate is far easier in my mind. Its direct and easy to understand. Love on the other hand is far more complicated.

I saw a quote from Neil Gaiman that rings true, but doesn't really help me as much as I had hoped. Still, it's worth sharing.

"Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love." -- Neil Gaiman

There are days when I think back on the relationships I have had, and how happy/miserable I was when in them. To be honest, I cannot fathom how anyone could stand to live their entire adult life with one person without driving each other crazy.

It's funny, when you are in a relationship that's having a rough patch, you wish you were single. After you've been single for a while, you wish you were in a relationship and had the chance to work things out.

Maybe that's just me.

Well, now I'm going to get the chance to see if I can unlock this chest full of feelings and put them into my characters.

It ought to be interesting, if nothing else.

Happy Labor day weekend everyone! Be safe and enjoy! I will see you next update!
