Real life intrudes!

Howdy folks,

Work has gotten even busier now, we lost another person due to medical reasons this weekend and I will probably be working extra shifts until we can replace at least one of these people. Right now I am pretty darn tired as is.

I have enough in the buffer to make it until the first week in march, and that's by trimming down updates to once weekly (Mondays).  I still have to finish the Subscriber special and I will keep that as the top of my list for this week and next. Then I have the month of February to crack down and build up my buffer. I want to have 12 pages done before I go back to my normal two updates a week schedule.

Sorry this blog isn't all that entertaining, I still haven't really decided what I will be doing to make it more interesting. Everything I want to do takes time away from doing the comic, and I find that irritates me a little bit more than I would have thought.

Man, real life is so intrusive!

Anyway, I have got to get some sleep before I fall over. I hope everyone has a great week and I will see you next update!

Plans for the coming month.

Howdy folks,

I wanted to talk a little bit about what I am doing for the coming short month of February.  Besides building up the buffer, which I am working pretty hard to do as we speak, I also have a couple of pages going out that will show off some of the other comics here on comicfury.com that I enjoy. These are not necessarily ones that have subscribed to mine, but ones I have enjoyed personally. I need to get in touch with the respective creators and get their permission first, but with a little luck, I should be able to give out some friendly nods to other folks without shattering my own story cannon in the process.

So as we speak, I want to get about 11 pages finished, for the buffer, and about 5 additional pages done as part of the subscriber thank you that I have had planned for a little while now.

As of now, I am working on finishing up all the updates for February, and then moving onto the subscriber thank you, then the buffer work. I have about two weeks worth of work just in getting the thank you finished. The rest of the time will go towards finishing the second chapter.

It looks like the second chapter will hit 50 pages at this point. I came up with a lot more material than I had thought I was going to use, and I am pretty excited about what I have in store for you guys.

So, with that, I am ready to get back to work and finish up the last couple of pages for next month's updates.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and I will see you next update!

Schedule change next month
by Draginbeard 13th Jan 2013, 11:16 PM

Howdy folks,

It's been a rough week at work, (double shifts are harder on me than they used to be) and now I'm getting behind in the strip, more than I can catch up on in fact. So it looks like the month of February is going to be a little different for my update schedule.

I will be updating  once a week for 4 weeks starting the 4th, and back to twice a week  starting March 4th. This is only a temporary deal so I can rebuild the buffer again.

I still have my subscriber thank you to finish up, and you will see that probably at the end of January and it will include everyone, up to the first 30 who have subscribed. Right now I am at 29. Once that's finished posting, I will be basically just be spending every minute I can to rebuild my buffer through the month of February. And then we are back to normal again.

Hopefully I won't need to do this sort of thing very often, but I imagine I will probably have to do this about once every six months or so.

I'm working on getting a laptop so I can work on the strip when I'm traveling, and such, but until then I have to face the fact that I am just not able to keep up as well as I had hoped.

On that note, I am going to go get some sleep, I am pretty much dead tired and I can't work well when I'm seeing spots before my eyes!

I will catch up with you guys next update, have a great week and enjoy the world!

Computer is a little finicky

Howdy folks,

As usual, it has been a busy week. I managed to unpack some boxes, and load up my bookshelves. Looks like I am going to need at least one more, but god only knows where I am going to be able to put it. My apartment is pretty tiny and its fairly snug already with my comic and book collections being what they are.

On the comic front, I have made some good progress with the updates, I am finishing up a 4th page for the week, should have them in the buffer by Saturday. I need to get cracking on the bonus art for the end of the month to celebrate the 25 subscriber mark. I have done some sketching, but nothing in final form yet.

I ran into a little trouble with my computer again, seems it doesn't much like Skyrim. Not sure what is causing it to crash, but I have so much going on with the comic already that it is going to have to wait. I'm disappointed because I really wanted to play since it came out, but money and time were against me.

Ah well, you can't always get what you want, but you can always get back to work, right? Speaking of which, I really need to get back to the comic and try to get all four pages done already.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, and I will catch up with you guys next update.

Drawing badly

Howdy folks,

Some days I can't draw anything. This morning was one of those days. I started cleaning up page 20 and tried to fix a few details, and I think I made everything worse! I'm also thinking the cave fight is taking too long, though I have about 4 - 6 more pages of it to go, this would make 26 pages of Jolly being in the cave, possibly even up to 30. Then another 10 or 12 more pages of the aftermath still.

Hopefully it reads better in a clump than as it slowly updates. I need to work out the pacing a little better, no doubt about it. Still, I will be able to get 3 pages colored and in the buffer this week and I can start really working on the Thank you page.

I was listening to the top 10 count downs on Y-not radio, and I caught the top 4 shows on their list, which I have to agree with as:

4) Boardwalk Empire.

3) Game of Thrones.

2) Breaking Bad.

1) The Walking Dead.

I am trying to keep up with some of my other webcomic subscriptions, and I have a few whose archives are calling to me that I want to get through. I think that will be my mission at work this week.

I hope everyone had a great weekend, and the coming week goes very well. I will catch up with you guys next update.

Webcomic Underdogs

Howdy folks,

I had a pretty good week, although I did work a double shift on Saturday, which killed my time to work on the comic over the weekend, I did manage to finish up one page (16) and I expect to have page 17 done by tonight.

I joined a Facebook group called 'Webcomic Underdogs' for a chance to connect with a few other comic types. I have high hopes as always.

In other news, the TV is set up, I still need a cable to have it work as a monitor, if I still want to do that. I put away a few boxes of DVDs and watched a little of Sucker Punch (which is visually stunning, but story wise....not so much). Now I can watch TV again.

Not really a whole lot going on, I am more focused in getting my buffer built back up a bit, and starting the pages for my subscriber thank you pages. Other than that, it has been a quiet week so far.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and I will see you next update!

Happy New Year!
by Draginbeard 30th Dec 2012, 11:00 PM
Draginbeard

Howdy folks,

So here we are, about to turn the clock over to a new year - 2013 already! 7 more years and my Cyberpunk game manual for 2020 should be valid!

Things that I am looking forward to in the coming year are;

Some great movies, including the Hobbit parts 2 and 3. World War Z, and Warm Bodies.

Phoenix comicon, saving up enough money to buy a couch, and maybe a new bed. Getting my buffer back up to 6 weeks, and getting myself back into better shape.

Not a whole lot, I know, but maybe the comic will pick up a little traction and I can go and get a table at the 2014 comicon.

New year resolutions you say?  I'm hoping to be a better person and try a little harder to keep in touch with friends.

Hopes for the new year.

Well I do hope the comic gets a little attention and I am able to improve my story and art to keep the interest up for anyone who reads it.

I hope to find someone nice to maybe share a little of my life with.

I hope for good health and good luck for everyone in my life now.

I hope the world grows a little safer, and we all find some good will and peace.

Happy New year everyone.

See you next update!

PS - there is going to be a little something extra this Wednesday, so check back then!

Cardboard jungle, man!
by Draginbeard 27th Dec 2012, 8:32 PM
Draginbeard

Howdy folks,

Well I finally built the new book cases, the TV stand, plugged in the new TV and now I have a huge mess of cardboard and packing junk filling up my tiny living room. On the one hand, I'm glad it's done, on the other, the cat is having a field day playing in the cardboard disaster zone!

Next up, unpack my book boxes and start making the place look more like a home, rather than a transient hotel room.

On the comic front, I spent the better part of a week finishing up a page dedicated to my gaming group. I am pretty happy with how it came out, and it will post on the site on January 2nd. I also finished up page 15 and that's now in the buffer.  I decided to redo a couple pages and I need to get to the drawing board to get those started real fast. I'm running low on buffer so I am going to have to buckle down and get in gear to catch up.

I cut out the last of the facebook games I was playing so I really don't have any excuses now. But with a new TV and blu ray player, I will have a chance to catch up on some of my TV shows. I don't have cable, but I am thinking that Netfix and Hulu would be good alternatives. I can work with the TV going in the background.

I will have to put in a little over time at work, which will help me catch up on some bills, though that might put a strain on my drawing schedule, I think I can manage it though.

Anyway, lots to do, never seems to be enough time.

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas, or whichever holiday you celebrate, if any. I had a quiet one, had some breakfast with a friend, then worked on the comic a little before heading off to work. I expect New Years will be more of the same. It's a little sad, I was really hoping to get to kiss someone at midnight this year, but that fell through again this year.

So now it's back to the drawing board for me, have a great weekend everyone, and I will see you next update!
