Welcome to Wyrmhold. The oldest of the great dragons lair here, with their broods. For almost a century, dragon kind slept deeply within these twisted caverns, safe from prying eyes.

Only a handful still roamed the world, watching and waiting, and then the Dark Mage activated his portal machine. This was the spark that changed everything.

The great Wyrms are now awake, and are no longer content to let the smaller races go about blundering with magic they cannot control.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have gotten a little feedback regarding the previous page, specifically concerning the Unseelie Path, and the Night Queen. I promise I will go into more detail about those after this scene with the dragons.
Took some time and did a fair amount of experimentation working in layers for this page. I messed it up more than once and had to go back and try bring it under control.
I wanted something mysterious and foreboding. A place that was a fitting lair for a large number of dragons.
It didn't work, but I think I got as close as I could this time around.
Good thing is, that I learned a thing or two for next time.
If you're browsing around any of the comic sites Jolly is on, give the dragons a friendly vote =)
LOTS of dragons!
With big, sharp, pointy teeth!
Giant dragons like that must need millions of calories a day just to stay alive!
Naw, the dragons populating this world dont actually need to eat. They get their nourishment from another source.
However, many of the younger dragons have developed a taste for hunting down and eating their prey.
Dipping sauce is becoming a thing now too.
Thanks =D
This page came out fine, but it was a tough bit of experimenting. I think I can do better.
Eventually =P
I think if you put more detail in the clouds that are in the foreground, you would create a better sense of "depth" in the image.
I should try that next time =)
If they keep snacking on villages like that they're going to attract too much attention, like from some dragon-slayer-wanna-be... or some dwarf.
Draginbeard
Oh, you can bet the dragons have gotten everyone's attention by now. They have been snacking on big kingdoms for years.
So much so, there are no more big kingdoms, in fact, a lot of the small ones are gone now too.
Its been a rough decade for Scarlan and its people.
Thanks =)
The place is up high and has some massive tunnel networks. I intend to map it all out, but that is going to take a while.
Doesn't the 'Wyrmhold' lead to the Delta Quadrant and Changelings or something?
Draginbeard 15th Sep 2014, 2:18 PM edit delete reply
OOOO very close Joel! I have a lot of what I think of as 'inside jokes' going on, but now I wonder just how inside they might be!
As a matter of fact, a couple of elements of this story were strongly inspired by one of my favorite (and under-rated, I might add) Science Fiction shows of all time.
But its not Star Trek.
Two of the big themes I intentionally took away from that show were;
Wormholes (Portals), and Pop Culture references nobody but the hero gets.
Stargate?
Draginbeard 15th Sep 2014, 9:15 PM edit delete reply
Draginbeard
Nope, although that was a good show. I didnt watch SG1 until earlier this year.
However, two of the main cast of the show Im referring to, did become regular cast members on SG1.
How many villages can they eat until they run out of food? :D
Draginbeard 15th Sep 2014, 11:54 PM edit delete reply
Draginbeard
The Dragons Ive envisioned dont actually need to eat, they just like the hunt, kill, and dining experience.
Dragons receive their nourishment from another source (which we will discover down the line), otherwise they would have starved to death long ago.
Thanks :) I trimmed up the edge of the dragon word balloons a little, so it would be less distracting.
Leerpain and Cizors are basically in their teenage years, so there is some good, and silly banter to play around with.
