So here l am, coming up on my 100th page already. Yikes!

On top of that, I passed the 500 vote mark, and (according to CF stats) I'm now over 100k page views! I'm stunned with happy!

About the creature rising up from the pit in the cave...

I've had this idea in my head for a while. I want a recurring minor villain with worse luck than Jolly.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Magmanious the vile Abyssal lord!

This guy was supposed to show up in the last chapter, but I was running long, so he got pushed back a little bit. See? His luck was bad even back then!

We have not seen the last of this guy, I promise you =P

In other news, I'm continuing my fifth favorite thing; messing around with word bubbles. I decided not to stroke them (outline the shapes) in this page, and see how that works out.

What do you guys think?

And if you're browsing around any of the comic sites he is on, give the dwarf a friendly vote =)

Might I suggest you come over and post your work here? comicfury is pretty dang reliable!

One of my favorite pages yet...
Love how it was cut and the angles...
Love the character too...

Very well done.

Thanks man, =)

This mini arc with Magmanious was fun to draw, but loaded with tiny details that kind of got lost by the time I was finished.

I don't want to sound prejudiced... but guys with green skin and three eyes and tentacles for arms and skull staves who have the Eye of Sauron as their emblem... kind of creep me out.
Draginbeard 11th Nov 2013, 1:20 PM edit delete reply
I don't think that sounds prejudiced at all. And this guy likes it when he creeps people out! =P

Never send a Parascopic demon to do an Abyssal Lords work.

Thanks =D

This page is full of all kinds of super villainy badness!

Your artwork has an increasing 3D look to it. I like it.

Thanks Chris. Working on the comic has been a labor of love. Glad you like it =D

I am loving that character design, like a cross between doctor doom and Cthulhu but at the same time your own creation! If you ever make a maquette of that guy let me know, I want one! :D
Draginbeard 11th Nov 2013, 4:11 PM edit delete reply
Thanks Louie =D

Honestly, I hadn't thought of it, but how cool would that be? I would love to do one of Jolly, Tinker, the dragons, Peeps and, just for you, one of Magmanious himself!

That would be a great con sell too!
LooeyQ 11th Nov 2013, 6:00 PM edit delete reply
Yeah for sure! I'd totally throw my cash at that!
Draginbeard 11th Nov 2013, 11:44 PM edit delete reply
Hmmm now l have a reason to get a 3-D printer!

The new bubbles look good, the trick is making sure they stand out against the background without strokes but the color you've used works well for that. This dude certainly looks pretty menacing, Jolly has his work cut out for him...
Draginbeard 11th Nov 2013, 11:54 PM edit delete reply
Mags is pretty powerful. Unless Tinker has some military grade explosives stashed away, Jolly wont have much of a chance.

lm glad the word bubble experiment seems to be going well. Lets see how things go for Jolly over the next couple of pages.

Lol, hey, I use that same font in Dexter a lot! I don't know if you noticed.

That's one badass looking sorceror!
Draginbeard 12th Nov 2013, 2:14 PM edit delete reply
Actually I hadn't, but that's a good thing. It means your blending your fonts very well.

About the only font that stands out for me is 'Chiller' because I found I have to darken it to make it more readable. So I will catch it right off if someone is using it.

Nearly all my fonts I picked up off of Blambot (they give you a nice selection of free ones)

Despite the Traditional call to use the same font for all dialog, (as well as oval word bubbles), I like using a mix for certain characters.

Death Rattle is one I like, but its more sound effect than Dialog.

In this case I wanted something Raspy, and Chiller didn't look right. Death Rattle seemed a good pick.

Glad you like Mags design. Monster making is tricky, his in particular.

Ive gotten some disheartening comparisons of He-Man to Thundercats on his design. I was really just trying for gross, and squid-ish.

Octopi kind of freak me out. And if one started to talk to me, I would probably need to go change my underpants.
TheSmilingPsycho 12th Nov 2013, 3:13 PM edit delete reply
Yea, I used Blambot, too. Using a mix for certain characters and inflections is great!

I thought the shading blended well with his cloak, too. I don't think he looks close enough to He-Man or Thundercats.

Octopi is the stuff of nightmares.
Draginbeard 12th Nov 2013, 11:12 PM edit delete reply
Yes, yes they are!!!

'Deep Rising' best squid-monster ever!

This is a very cool page. I love the bad evilness of the page.
Draginbeard 13th Nov 2013, 10:57 PM edit delete reply
Thanks Doug =)

I enjoyed doing Mags dialog almost as much as the art.

And yeah, this guy is a real bad apple even among his evil peers.

I'm digging the bad guy design. He sure has that seriously evil chic! I generally prefer old fashioned word balloons with outlines for spoken dialog. Thought balloons and words spoken with a more etherial voice might work well without outlines. But that's just me.

Congrats on 100 pages! :)
Draginbeard 19th Nov 2013, 2:32 AM edit delete reply
I may go and stroke his dialog in the future, l will keep playing around and see what l like as l go.

Next Monday (11/25/13) marks the official 100th page!
